
THE AKRON MARATHON 2019
Every year the Kent State OATS participate in the FirstEnergy Akron Marathon. OATS members will help give first aid and give medical to assistance the runners.
The 2019 Akron Marathon was on September 28. The race began at 7:30 am.
The students arrive at 6:30 in the morning to help runners stretch and get warmed up for the race. When the race begins, OATS members are set at stations to help give out water and give medical support throughout the race.
“We have a lot of experience through our program, It is a real fun experience; it is nice way to learn out of the classroom” said OATS Vice President Alexander Wisnyai
According to Wisnyai the OATS members also earn community service hours for however long they are there. The members sign up for shifts, but they can also sign up for all day.
“I get to do community service and learn about my career”” said Anne Paquette a senior member of OATS.

During the entirety of the event the members of Kent State OATS will get water, handle cuts and bleeding and help with pre and post marathon treatment.
“Post marathon treatment is my favorite because we get to see people’s success and celebrate with them” said Paquette
During post marathon treatment the OATS will get ice and do stretch treatment and cramp treatment for the runners.
